The famous surf spot, known as The Wedge, with its large surf breaks close to shore and common smaller surf competitions are located. Boats glide seamlessly in and out of the Newport Harbor along with the common paddle boarders as people ride bikes, walk, rollerblade and enjoy the cement boardwalk, beaches and roads such as Newport and Balboa Boulevard. The Peninsula offers more vacation rental properties than surrounding beach cities and the mix of old time locals, newcomers, fun seekers, vacationers, renters and celebrities who enjoy this vibrant area.
The architecture is a mix of old cottages, bungalows and beautiful custom homes. Living on the Peninsula can be a fantastic experience--local pubs and shops are within walking distance of most homes and the beach is always a block or two away while many restaurants in fact, even provide docks for you to use while you dine. Famous restaurants along the Peninsula include the Crab Cooker and Tail of the Whale. Common local hot spots include The Ally and The Newport Beach Brew Company for bottomless Sunday brunches, El Ranchito and Great Mex for taco Tuesdays, the Fun Zone, Bear Flag, Billy's, and Villa Nova for fun days out with your family, or while out on your boat.
Other Famous landmarks include Newport Pier, Balboa Pier, Dory Fish Market and the Pavilion. Located near the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Main Street, Newport Harbor includes boat rentals, a daily boat ride to Catalina Island, 45 and 90 minute boat tours of the Newport Harbor and the Newport Beach Ferry. With nearly everything at your disposal, from sunset cruises to prime surfing locations, live entertainment and arts and cultural venues. Newport allows you to create exactly the experience and the lasting memories that you are looking to create. A year-round calendar of sporting events, film festivals, boat parades, music series and food & wine tastings to add to the colorful menu of things to do, all within a bike ride distance.
Newport's school district, Newport Mesa, currently serves approximately 22,500 at twenty-two elementary schools, two intermediate schools, four high schools, one alternative education center, and one adult education center, all of which are rated in the top 15% of the schools statewide.
